//The Intervening City
Jason Baerg
Jason Baerg facilitates a series of eight new media workshops with local Indigenous youth while creating a solo exhibition and a concurrent youth exhibition. The workshops and exhibitions focus on tensions between urban and rural life in Indigenous communities. Baerg will work with the community to learn about the culture of the Syilx nation. In turn he will honour their wisdom with paintings and digital printings on adhesive vinyl inspired by the medicine wheel.
As a visual artist, Baerg has presented at such institutions as the Walter Philips Gallery in Banff, the Canadian Indian Art Centre in Ottawa, and the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. Baerg has won numerous awards through the Canada Council and the Ontario Arts Council. He is a founding member of the Metis Artist Collective, one of three official officers of the Indigenous Peoples Caucus for the Creative Rights Alliance, a board member for both the Aboriginal Curatorial Collective and the Independent Media Arts Alliance.

//The Intervening City: Mind of a City
Judy Cheung
Mind of a City functions as both a site for art production and as a contemplative space for collaboration. During her residency, Cheung invites visitors to move through a series of instructions and workstations that incorporate aspects of psychological therapy, motivational messages, goal-realization strategies, meditation and physical exercise.
The research culminates into a new media installation presenting data gathered during Cheung's residency. This work will examine what she has observed as a growing sense alienation and displacement among local residents through interactive sculpture, video and sound documentation.
By creating sensory stimulating objects and environments, Mind of a City attempts to counterbalance the increasingly impersonal digital age. Cheung's collaborative process provides a platform to critique, rethink and reinvent oneself in the face of pressing social issues.
Judy Cheung received her undergraduate visual arts degree from the University of Calgary and an MFA degree from the Pratt Institute, New York. Cheung's work has been exhibited across Canada, USA, Europe, as well as in Hong Kong and Singapore. In 2006 her on-going project, "Love is in the Air- SkyLink" was shown at the Havana Biennial in Cuba, and her solo exhibition, freeLink, was staged at the Surrey Art Gallery. Cheung currently lives in Vancouver.

//The Intervening City: Members' Show
Scott Rogers
Scott will develop collaborative projects with several Alternator members who will submit instructions for artworks he will produce through consultation.
The residency will culminate in a final Members' Exhibition, which investigates the structure and administrative systems inherent to artist-run centres. Scott's work provides opportunities for local artists in Kelowna, promotes the role and relevance of artist-run culture, fosters artistic exchange and encourages dialogue around the importance of collaborative activities in art and life.
Scott Rogers is a multidisciplinary artist, writer and facilitator currently based in Calgary. He has shown his work in group and solo shows throughout Canada as well as internationally in Germany, the United States and Ireland. Scott has participated in residencies at Church Basement (Saskatoon), the Gushul Studio (Crowsnest Pass) and the Banff Centre. He is one of the founding members of the suburban art collective the Arbour Lake School, a member of the Board of Directors and programming committee at Truck Gallery and a recent recipient of an ACDI grant from the Canada Council and AFA.
